Professional Concept Proposal

The concept of my video is going to start with me sitting at the bus stop just waiting. Then the bus will come down street, as that happens I will walk out into the street with my arms outstretched. After I walk into the street I will cut between shots of me standing in the street and the bus coming down the road to build intensity. I want to show it as though the bus and I are going to collide. While this is going on loud opera music will be playing in the background, which will help heighten the intensity even more. Once the bus and I collide, it will cut to a dead silent shot of me sitting on the bus leaning against the window with a smirk on my face. The intensions of my video are geared towards opportunity. Great opportunities only come by once and a while, and we need to take them when they come around. The audio for my video will be opera music. There will be a series of different shots but mainly close ups, full shots, and extreme close-ups.

Hi Drew,

• outstretched how - jumping jack arms or trying to stop the bus arms?
• Are the shots of the bus coming at you? (head on from your perspective?)
• It could be really interesting to include every possible angle of the bus coming (shots where we see it approaching in the distance and see you standing in the foreground waiting at the bus stop; shots of the bus crossing horizontally across the scene; POV shots of the bus coming at you; tracking shots from the bus' POV; etc.) But you would need to negotiate this with the bus driver.
• is it a BGSU bus, a tarta bus, a school bus, a greyhound bus, etc? Consider the inherent meaning of each bus when you plan the concept (a school bus would be different than a greyhound to LA, for example)
• At what point do you jump in front of the bus (how close is it?)
• do we ever see you moving toward the front of the bus, or is this a metaphor (we don't see you moving toward the bus, but you appear there, then appear inside the bus, etc.)
• Does the bus drive away with you in it, or where is the bus? Location will also be important in the interpretation of the piece.
• Do you show the empty bus stop at the end, or are you still sitting there watching yourself drive away on the bus?
• Try to clarify the symbolism / meaning of the piece. For example, if the bus represents opportunity - which you are initially waiting for, then we see you colliding with opportunity (exaggeratedly), then we see you riding opportunity - how does that all work together?
• Why opera music? If so, WHAT opera music? (Wagner, mozart, who?) I also challenge you to consider adding some voiceover - perhaps a monologue or occasional words or introduction - something that could help to contextualize the piece.
• What is the weather and location of the piece - again, every detail will really help support your concept and add do the expression of your piece - nothing is arbitrary! So, if you are waiting in the bright sun and the bus collision happens in pouring rain or night time - what does that say about your piece?
• BE SURE TO USE A TRIPOD FOR THIS ONE!!!! Maybe even set up multiple cameras simultaneously so that you can sync the various camera angles and not have to repeat the shoot too many times!

I think this idea has a LOT of potential and could be a really interesting and beautiful piece if you pay attention to the details - make it all purposeful!
